Operation Rice BowlCRS Operation Rice Bowl

Operation Rice Bowl is a Lenten “pray, fast, learn, donate” program which is active in parishes and schools in the Archdiocese, as well as the chancery. It makes the connection between love of God and love of neighbor on a global basis and assists people with basic necessities, education, self-sufficiency and health challenges in 100 countries, while educating parishioners on the reality of life for our brothers and sisters around the globe.

How can I participate in Operation Rice Bowl?

Parish and school Rice Bowl donation checks (made out to the Archdiocese of Atlanta, memo: Operation Rice Bowl) mailed to the CRS archdiocesan director make it possible for 25% of the funds to benefit Refugees and Asylees in the Archdiocese. Please send ORB donations to Susan S. Sullivan, director of Parish & Social Justice Ministries, Catholic Charities, 680 W. Peachtree St. NW. Atlanta, GA 30308. The remaining 75% of those funds will then be forwarded to CRS for international projects, in keeping with CRS policy.

Fair Trade Fair Trade sales can be held in parishes or schools at any time throughout the year. Participants can select from beautiful Fair Trade handcrafts, delicious coffee and rich chocolate. A demonstration sale is held at the chancery after Thanksgiving. For information on how to conduct a sale, contact Augusto Michael Trujillo at amtrujillo@archatl.com or 404.885.7472.
