When preparing to buy your first home, it is important to plan ahead so you can manage your finances and be a successful homeowner. Catholic Charities Atlanta recognizes that an educated homebuyer has a better homeownership experience. Because of that, we offer group education seminars to help you decide whether you are ready to buy a home. Our 8-hour homebuyer education seminar includes:

• Are You Ready to Buy?
• Managing Your Money
• Understanding Credit
• Getting a Mortgage Loan
• Shopping for a Home
• Keeping Your Home
• Predatory Mortgage Lending
• Foreclosure Prevention

 

Industry professionals are invited (i.e. insurance agents, realtors, home inspectors, etc.) to discuss their role in the process.

In addition to the group seminar, it is highly recommended that participants meet one-on-one with a certified counselor to determine a budget,review credit history information, understand the steps to buying a home, and learn about closing information. Counselors can assist clients in preparing an “action plan” to follow in preparation of homeownership and evaluate mortgage readiness and affordability.Documentation usually required for a homebuyer preparation appointment includes: current pay stubs, tax returns and W-2 forms for the past 2 years, credit information (if applicable), and three months of bank statements. Additional information may be required. Because our counselors are not affiliated with any private business, they can give you an honest assessment of your situation.
