Catholic Social Teaching

This presentation serves as an introduction to social justice through the lens of the 7 key themes of Catholic Social Teaching and can be presented in a variety of ways depending upon the audience. Presentation can be amended to focus on one or any number of the 7 key themes to speak to a particular issue ( e.g., solidarity, global poverty, rights of workers, Catholics and political life, simple living).

Goal: To familiarize the audience with the 7 key themes of Catholic Social Teaching, to shed light on the Church's rich justice tradition and to introduce the audience to resources that dive deeper into and provoke thought on the Church's social teaching ( i.e. encyclicals, pastoral letters, interfaith statements, advocacy alerts). A major goal is also to provide follow up, opportunities for action, and next step for audiences looking to become  more involved in justice-related activities and initiatives.

Justice for Immigrants

This presentation serves as an overview of the history of immigration, the Catholic Church's position on immigration, the U.S. Bishops' principles on immigration, a glance at today's immigration legal system, a wake-up call dispelling myths, and a look at local, national  and international statements made by leaders of the Catholic Church on immigration.

Goal: Goals of this presentation are to familiarize the audience with the Church's teaching on immigration, dispel myths, open hearts to welcome the stranger, and make public the   positions taken by our local bishop, the U.S. Bishops and other faith leaders. We will introduce the audience to a variety of papal encyclicals, pastoral documents, and interfaith statements on immigration and will provide follow up with opportunities for action and next steps for audiences looking to become involved in the Catholic Church's legislative push for a comprehensive immigration reform. We will also work with those parish leaders and parishes who are ready to bring together the diverse audiences of their own parish for dialogue and relationship building.

Immigration 101, Raid Response, Know your Rights

Introduction to the Immigration System, the Government Agencies, and the Process of Law to attain Legal Status. Review of government agencies, immigration system, "rights" review, advisory about raids.

Goal: This presentation informs citizens and non-citizens on how the immigration system works. Helps the vulnerable population prepare in case of raids.
Who should attend: Presentation is geared toward an adult audience of citizens and non-citizens alike to learn about the immigration system.
