Volunteer Projects and Drives
Looking for a flexible service project for your group or class? These opportunities do not involve direct contact with clients but provide major support for people in need.

Welcome Box Drive: 
Hold a drive to help someone setting up a household: a refugee family or a young parent making a home for a child.  See below for suggestions.

Bathroom Basket
Start with a medium laundry basket,

ADD:

2 bath towels
2 hand towels
2 face cloths
4 toilet paper rolls
2 bars soap
4 toothbrushes
1 tube toothpaste
2 deodorants
1 bottle shampoo
1 disposable razor
1 can cleanser
1 thermometer

Cleaning Kit
Start with a bucket,
ADD:

1 broom
1 dustpan
2 rags
1 package sponges
1 scrub brush
1laundry detergent
1 white vinegar
1 non-toxic soap
1 baking soda 

Tableware box
4 dinner plates
4 soup bowls
4 cups
4 glasses
4 forks
4 spoons
4 knives
1 serving bowl

Bed Bag
Start with a large Plastic Bag,

ADD:

For double bed:

  • One full sheet set
  • 1 blanket
  • 1 quilt or bedspread
  • 2 pillows

or

For single bed:

  • 1 single sheet set
  • 1 blanket
  • 1 quilt or bedspread
  • 1 pillow

Kitchen Box
Start with kitchen trash can,

ADD:

2 cooking pots
1 large stew pot w/ cover
1 frying pan
1 can opener
1 paring knife
1 carving knife
1 spatula
1 cooking spoon
1 mixing bowl
1 stove top tea kettle
2 pot holders
2 dish towels
2 dishrags
1 dish soap
1 package tall garbage bags

 

Book Drive

Collect books for children and adult English Language Learners.

Chest of Drawers Classroom Project:

Obtain a used but serviceable chest of drawers (repair and painting is a good hands-on option) and fill it with items for:

  1. A newborn baby whose mother is a client of our Pregnancy, Parenting & Adoption Program, or 
  2. A child served by our Refugee Resettlement Program.  It is recommended to match the age of the child with the class.

Infant Items

Pregnancy, Parenting and Adoption program is currently in need of infant items, especially: Baby Wipes and diapers sizes 1, 4, 5, and 6.

Sewing Kits

Assemble sewing kits for refugee women microenterprise effort in Clarkston.  Some enterprising women are making cloth shopping bags; others are sewing for their families and need kits containing: sewing scissors, needles, pins and a measuring tape.
