The Rawson Haverty Fund
Catholic Charities of Atlanta created the Rawson Haverty Fund, providing
help and hope for families and children, facing poverty, abuse and
illiteracy. With this fund, Catholic Charities will carry out Rawson
Haverty’s legacy of love and compassion for children and families in
need.
The late Mr. Rawson Haverty Sr. joined Haverty Furniture Companies,
founded in 1885 by his grandfather, after returning in 1945 from service
in the U.S. Army in World War II. He served as secretary, vice president,
and treasurer before becoming president in 1955 and later chairman
in 1974. He served until 2000, and was chairman emeritus until 2003.
Mr. Haverty served as a leader on numerous civic boards and committees.
His church was first in his heart, and he served as chairman of the
first Archdiocesan Finance Committee in 1964, staying on the board
for 14 years. A longtime supporter of the Village of St. Joseph Mental
Health Counseling Program, Mr. Haverty was a member of its board for
18 years, first board president and first honorary life trustee.
He was “beloved because he loved.” Rawson Haverty Sr. loved his family,
friends, work, Atlanta and the Catholic Church. He is survived by his
wife Margaret, his sons, Rawson Jr. and Ben, his three daughters, Peggy
Haverty Glover, Jane Middleton Haverty and Liz Haverty Bousson, and
his 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Haverty
Smith.
Your Donation to the Rawson Haverty Fund will make a great difference
to all those who benefit from your generosity. We are grateful and
thank you.
