Christmas Connections

Over 650 families received the generosity of spirit last year through CCA’s Christmas Connections project. Eight parishes, CCA Staff, and youth volunteers from St. Pius X High School collected and distributed gifts to our client refugee families as well as needy families from Cedartown, Duluth, West End, and Chamblee. To read more about how our Christmas Connections project has helped the refugee community, please see Georgia Bulletin article. Joseph Krygiel, chief executive officer of Catholic Charities Atlanta, said, “We are so grateful to the people who continue this tradition of charity that touches the lives of people in need.”

Furnish an Apartment for a Family of 6

Our Refugee Resettlement Program settles over 250 refugees each year. Part of CCA’s resettlement services include setting up a fully furnished apartment for individuals and families who are arriving from refugee camps all over the world. You can help with this effort by organizing your friends and neighbors to collect the following items to furnish a three bedroom apartment.

  • Sofa/living room chairs with seating for six
  • Coffee table and 2 end tables
  • Television and digital converter box with antenna (most families are unable to afford the cost of a monthly cable bill)
  • Kitchen table and six chairs
  • A bed (mattress, box spring & frame) per person
  • Three small dressers
  • Three night stands (one for each bedroom)
  • Three alarm clocks (one for each bedroom)
  • 5 lamps

Hold a Book Drive

Literacy begins at home. Collect books for children and adult English Language Learners. English Language Learners need books to practice their reading skills and children need books to take home and treasure.

Book Bag Drive

Encourage your children to help children who are less fortunate by organizing a book drive to collect school supplies. Encourage their friends to donate new book bags filled with the following items.

  • Loose-leaf Paper
  • Note Books
  • 3-Ring Binders
  • Folders
  • Pens
  • Pencils
  • Crayons
  • Ruler
  • Soft Eraser
  • Dictionary
  • Glue

Chest of Drawers Project

Obtain a new or used, but serviceable chest of drawers (repair and painting is a good hands-on option) and fill it with items for:

  • A newborn baby whose mother is a client of our Pregnancy, Parenting & Post Adoption Program
  • A child served by our Refugee Resettlement Program (Sample items to include are school clothing for either a girl or boy, coat, pajamas, under garments, a toy, toothbrush, books, etc.)

Host a Baby Shower

Consider hosting a Baby Shower in honor of Catholic Charities Atlanta. Gather a group of friends, co-workers or fellow parishioners for an afternoon of fun while giving back to your community. Our Pregnancy, Parenting and Post Adoption program is currently in need of infant items. We regularly provide baby items to women and teens who are trying to establish a home for their newborn child.

Items our clients need include:

  • Infant and/or toddler car seats (new or gently used that have never been in a car accident and are less than 3-4 years old). New mothers are unable to discharge their newborn babies from the hospital without an infant car seat.
  • Pack ’N Play cribs (new or gently used)
  • Baby wipes
  • Disposable diapers (newborn to size 6)
  • Grocery gift cards for baby food
  • Books (new infant books)
  • Clothes (new or gently used newborn items)

You may also visit our Target Baby Registry to donate specific baby items to our program. Our List ID is 012399302030854. For more information about donating, please call Sandy Thompson at 404-978-2777 or by email at sthompson@catholiccharitiesatlanta.org.
